There are only a few causes of high potassium blood levels (hyperkalemia) - one is renal disease (the kidney excretes potassium out of your body) or aldosterone deficiency. Some medications such as ACE inhibitors can also lead to elevated potassium levels.
It is highly unlikely that eating too much potassium containing foods will lead to hyperkalemia since the body will instinctively excrete more from its kidneys.
Sometimes blood results for potassium can be falsely elevated if the blood cells are allowed to break apart (hemolyze) while the specimen is being drawn. If this is the case, then the specimen should be repeated.

In any event since hyperkalemia can lead to cardiac arrhythmia's (abnormal heart beats) it is imperative for your MD to determine the exact cause of the high potassium.

Once the exact cause is identified, then treatment such as kidney dialysis can be done.

Good luck.
