I make a Haunted House every year and when I first started I didn't have much time or money . I got black plastic table cloths
and cut ragged holes randomly on them and hang for curtains . Lots of candles for spooky mood [Hopefully there will be adults to monitor } . Purple Minny lights are also great . Use spider webs , cut out bats out of black poster board . A must is spooky music ! Spread leaves on porch . Stuff old jeans lay on lawn with top right up to a bush or potted plant w/ rats crawling up the legs .
Make or buy Minny ghosts to hang randomly .Hope this starts your creative juices flowing !

One cool thing in the food line we had last year was canned crab {or light tuna } w/ 8oz. cream cheese molded to look a brain than carefully pour on the blood { Heinz chilly sauce } have
crackers on another plate . I think I doubled the meat & cream cheese last year but I knew everyone loved it . Carve out a couple of those tiny pumpkins and pour chip dip in them , Decorate cupcakes w/ green, orange & purple icing and top with Halloween food picks , like pumpkins , ghosts , bats ect.
You can get the picks at any party store .
Hope this helps sweetie !!!
Have a spooktacular party !

We have a huge Halloween party every year and I always put out a box of "kitty litter". Mix a box of grape-nuts cereal with some green food coloring until it looks like kitty litter. Put this into a new litter pan. Now the fun part - unwrap a bunch of tootsie-rolls and put them in the microwave for a few seconds (15-20) just until they are soft enough to "mold" into turd shapes. Only put a few in at a time or they will harden again before you shape them. If some get really soft and runny it's OK - adds the the gross effect! Put a new pooper-scooper in the pan too. Everybody always gets a kick out of it!

Keep food simple and concentrate on just having fun or you will be stuck in the kitchen. I would do Pizza and soda. Compile several CD's so you have them ready.

As far as decorations, that depends on how much you have to spend. For a cheap idea, just do Orange & Black Balloons and streamers and put low watt lightbulbs in the lamps in the room where the party will be so it will be on the dark side but light enough to see.

You are in the 8th grade. So you can have something simple, but etiquette. Like for food you can have deviled eggs, cut up ham sandwiches , meatballs, party wings and a veggie tray or meat tray. As for music you don't even have to have a DJ. If you have a stereo with a disc changer you can put some CD"s on mix and let them play random. I hope you have a nice party, you just gave me a idea to give my little girl one.

Sorry, I thought I was replying to a similar question earlier. Here's my revised suggestions for you:

If the weather permits, have a "Ghoul's Garden Party." Make luminaries from paper sacks and line the path leading to your party. Have a ghost host greet them at the garden gate.

Hang spider webs, spiders, bats and cats everywhere. String orange and purple lights on the trees, tables, canopy, around plants and in empty cauldrons. Use small fans strategically placed to blow fog from a dry ice or a fog machine.

Play Phanthom of the Opera until everyone has arrived, then you can get them moving with The Monster Mash, Purple People Eater, Ghostbusters, etc. As they dance, you can surprise them with a tap on the shoulder from a werewolf, Frankenstein, or the Count himself.

Serve up lots of various "finger" foods. Some suggestions: toes (hot dogs baked in crescent rolls and cut into bite-size pieces), eyes (deviled eggs) and ears (dried apricots). Dessert can be lady fingers cookies (add fingernails of sliced almonds to the cookies with frosting). Serve warm or cold apple cider from a large scooped out pumpkin.

Have a cool ghoul evening!

Sorry, I cannot help with the recipes BUT...here are some party themes:

- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Harry Potter
- Super Heroes

You can buy these theme party supplies at online stores, and it includes everything: plates, Napkins, Invitations, Candles, Tablecover , etc...real easy and not that expensive (~$60)

Know the feeling - I love Hallowe'en & have website links.
I usually email them to my friends along with their invitations.
To pick a theme, you could check out the most popular films for 8th-graders on www.imdb.com (Pirates of the Caribbean for example?) & stock up on eye-patches to hand out.

But 8th-graders have lots of imagination & probably have a favourite hero or costume in mind. Your only issues are the decor & food! Entertainment - you'll see ideas & novelty candy prizes are everywhere. Have a few really good prizes like stage make-up kits, for use next year or on the night itself.

But I'd skip the bobbing for apples - if they spend an hour doing their stage makeup, it might not be waterproof! Anyone who dresses & makes up is going to want to look good in photos, not drenched! Better to suspend an apple, candy or a bunch of seedless grapes from a line, then swing it past them, so they can try to eat some. Or slice pineapple & have them spear it with cocktail sticks while blindfold - points for the most pieces captured in one minute.

And have cameras ready!
You can buy recordings of spooky sound effects to play also.

i think you could choose a theme and everyone could get dressed in a way consistent with the theme - for example horror theme and everyone is a ghost or zombie or witch - or something less clichee: fantasy theme and elves, dwarfes, hobbits, dragons, skeletons etc and - forest theme: butterflies, animals, trees, flowers, fairies etc. - once you choose your theme you can search from the web to find some material which would look good in that theme - and then use your imagination and find materials in your houses - bags, papers, paints etc. - food - definitely make something correspondent to the theme, for example if you choose forest theme - fruit baskets, mushrooms etc would look great - imagine it first and then you will definitely will know where to look to find materials :))
