Since the smell is only occasional and you have tried several methods to get rid of it, the problem may not be in the sink. If the smell comes after it rains, you may have a sewer line backing up. If the smell occurs after you use lots of water (Toilet flushing, washing etc.) in a short period of time, your drains may not be able to handle the volume.

My bathroom drain as well as my kitchen drain smells from time to time, I use vinegar and baking soda to help clear the drains and then I put a couple of tablespoons of realemon juice and just let it go down on its own. The bakingf soda and vinegar also act as a drain cleaner. Just two tablespoons baking soda followed by half cup vinegar...let it sit for a few minutes and then rinse with luke warm water. Then the juice. The concoction doesn't harm the environment, pets, or most importantly kids.

The only way to get a sewer smell from a drain is if the water in the p-traps has evaporated.
Another source of the smell could be an open vent. Possibly a cleanout cover left off.

clean the drain by taking the trap apart or by running a plumbers snake through it. We have the same problem.Whats happening is there's probably so much crap and stuff in the trap that it is soaking the water up over time and since there is no water there it is allowing gases to come up. or there could be a toothpick or something catching hair and siphoning the water down the drain just like a toilet clogged with hair. Hope this helps. The easiest thing would be to run a plumbers snake (very cheap at hardware stores) through the drain which would break and unclog anything in there.

Each drain should have a vent to the roof called a stand pipe. I suggest putting a rubber plug over the drain and some water on top to keep the smell away. And go out more!

I pour bleach (Clorox) down the drain after cleaning it. And then I do it for a couple of days maybe once a day like a 1/4 of a cup or so...

Try pouring Arm & Hammer baking soda down the drain. Use the whole box. They are not that big.

You might have a clog in your drain that is causing the stench. Try using draino or something similar to see if that helps.

Or if it's a drain attached to a garbage disposal, try grinding up a lemon!
