The term Canucks came from comics hero in WWI as Johnny Canuck was known to the Brits and to help with the war effort and recruitment in Canada.
Vancouver Canucks was the name picked by the first owners to honor the service man and women who served in the Canadian Armed Forces.
So Canucks has no slang in it, Its endearing. Kinda Like saying Aussies for Australians.

Canadians are not a race, first of all. Neither are "Canadiens" really.
Canucks are what maybe Amurricans called us ages ago but no one gives a crap. It's like calling Amurricans Yanks...it just sounds like something from the 1940s that Brits said.
Canucks is a very very old slang term for Canadians BUT the team name is from the old Johnny Canuck lumberjack character the team used to have when it was in the old pro WHL prior to joining the NHL in 1970. That old logo was way cool and beats any the Nux have had over the NHL ages. Check out the link to see it.

No there is nothing racist about being called a Canuck--It is a nick-name for a CANADIAN.--Notice the spelling of Canadian, there is no "e" in Canadian, when it is spelt with an "e" it is the french version of the word, and despite what a lot of people ( mostly those from below the Canada-U.S. border ) think, most of us do not speak french.
In fact spelling Canadian with an "e" is the insult.

No it's not racist and I speak English as my mother tonge and I live in Quebec ( I do speak French as a secon language though). The reason why there is no seperation is because there are a lot of French speaking people here there are also a lot of anglophones we're not stupid. I like Canada.

I agree with 81shovel, It is an insult to spell Canadian with an "e" Canada is an English speaking country!!! It's about bloody time that Québec becomes a country with their own culture. But Quebecers are too stupid to vote "Yes" for separation.
So anyways, to stick to the subject, I respect the name Canucks, never had a problem with that.

What's next? P.E.T.A. lobbying to have animal names considered racist? I think those that are too sensitive about names of sports teams should stick to their own lives and stay away from what I enjoy. I'm multi-national, and don't get insulted by names. That's so childish. Bunch of damned Liberal commies.
