Lol, this is not a hard question folks. What all do they give you like for instance do they give you formula or diapers and if so how much and is there anything else they give you? I have pretty much everything I need to get started but I am still curious.

Unfortunately, they love to send you home with loads of formula, because they get kickbacks from the companies that make it. It's tempting for a new mom to second-guess herself and supplement with formula when she's just starting out trying to establish a breastfeeding relationship.

Other than that, they sent me home with lots of sanitary pads, a couple of diapers, the big-*** industrial size nasal aspirator that you can't find in stores, a couple of cute onesies with the hospital name on them, a box of videos about baby care (which we never watched, who has a VCR anymore?)

And these were a lifesaver: SOOTHIES!

If they offer you Soothies, take as many as they'll let you get away with. I had no idea they were so expensive, like $8-9 a pair at the drugstore. These are the gel pads that you put on your nipples when you start out breastfeeding and you're all cracked and sore. I lived in these things for about a month. Love 'em!!!

Good luck!

My local hospital gives a folder full of articles, coupons and samples of lotion and diaper rash ointment. They also usually give each mother who birthed a diaper bag that is manufactured by a formula company. They usually have two different versions of it- a breastfeeding success diaper bag and a formula feeding success diaper bag. The breastfeeding one has breastfeeding info and pumping information, and maybe even a cheap pump. The formula feeding one has bottle feeding info and a couple of cans of formula and coupons to buy more.

If you're breastfeeding, the nursing staff will usually give you samples of lanolin and disposable nursing pads.

The nursing staff will open a small package of newborn disposable diapers when the baby is born and encourage the parents to take it home. They also usually give each baby a hat, an undershirt, and a pacifier.

Why don't you call your local hospital's ob floor and ask a nurse?

At my local hospital I also received tons of intervention during the birthing process which led to a uterine infection, two emergency room visits, a hospital stay and a near death experience. I think for my next birth I'm going to waive the hospital freebies and have a midwife assisted homebirth. :)

SOME hospitals give (yeah right) you a baby seat for your car to take the kid home in because there are so many poor people having kids who couldn't afford one.

Other than that a handful of diapers, a nasal bulb syringe, and a cheap blanket. Thats about it.

It really depends on the hospital but most have some sort of "sample pack" that they distribute to new parents.

These usually have sample diapers, lotions, diaper rash ointments, baby powder, and all sorts of other samples.

Take whatever you can get, every little bit helps in the long run.

Good luck and congratulations?

The hospital I deliver at doesn't give you anything. You can take the open pack of diapers that you've been using (but it's usually half gone when you leave). They gave me a sample of Similac (a couple bottles worth) but I breastfeed, so I didn't use it. They actually made me unwrap my first born and give back the blanket she was in. Cheap bastards.

Good lord girl, if you're looking for the hospital to start you off on the road to Parenthood, you need more help that what you can find here!

The most you're gonna get from them after you've had the baby is....the baby, a ride in a wheelchair and you'll be lucky if you get a diaper bag.

God help us all.

they give you a ton of medical bills, and they let you keep all the diapers, formula, baby receiving blanket stuff like that. then they send you on your way to hell for the next few weeks as you adjust to life with your baby.

When I had my son, they sent me home with this:

A few things of ready-to-use formula

A bit of diapers

Some wipes

Some Vaseline and gauze(he was circumcised)

A baby brush and comb

A car seat(even though I had my own)

A pacifier

And there was probably more, I just can't remember. Basically, there was a little drawer thing under his little bed. They clean it out and give it all to you. I didn't need it, but my nurse said I may as well take it, they would just toss it.

Classes. Other than that, you're on your own. Take EVERYTHING that they give you in your room. Everyone keeps telling me to. They usually stock you up on diapers, and some other stuff. Take it home with you.
