No not in the Hollywood type way but in a different way. Alot is mind over matter and positive thinking to bend the forces or outcome tayored to their needs, for example to earn more money by working hard, not by going out and poof they win the lottery or do David Copperfield type of magic. They would use the majick to simply give them the strength to work hard. Like meditation or prayer. Some use candles or herbs, etc. Also the time of the moon phase and the direction of the wind helps, since it is a nature based religion. Most Witches do good and ordinary people call it white majick, it is the Satanists who do the dark arts sometimes referred to as black majick and alot of people confuse the two. However I have known a few not many people to be a combination of the two. I have also known of Jewish Wiccans, etc. Witches do not go by the tiltle of Wizzards, Warloks or Sorcerers, they are just called a Witch or have a witch name like Grey Wolf, or Herb Goddess. Witches are ordinary people who should be respected just as much as anyother person or religion. They are all around you, they come from all walks of life, it is the fastest growing religion, they are not anti Christian and respect others belifes, however they do not believe in God or the Devil but the earth or other Gods and Godesses. They like to be respected for what they belive in and do not wish for others to push their religion upon them because I am sure a Christian would not like a Witch to tell them our way is the only way and you sould pray to my Gods'. Witches also contribute to people in need and do volunteer work and other positive things. Just like anyother person or religion you have good and bad people however I do not remember the last time I heard of a Witch getting into trouble like some priests have lately. Witches have had some bad people in the past and are now moving forward making changes for the better just like the other religions. Ok, Harry Potter first, no - witches can't use a piece of wood to make their desires happen. HOWEVER, and this is big, so please listen, magic is real. People have known this throughout the ages. It is usually fear which keeps them from doing the most magical things. In the time of the crusades and to this date, it became the mission of the churches to wipe out any other belief which conflicts with their total power. I don't mean God doesn't exist, I also don't mean He is worried about the powers He has given us, I mean the churches want absolute power. Not a soapbox, just an explanation for why we choose not to use what we are given, or see what is in front of us. Black magic is used to harm and for personal gain. It is not only bad manners, it harms people in a deep and lasting manner - including those wielding that power. White magic is what the earliest doctors practiced. They healed using information available to them by practitioners of the white arts. What about sorcerers? I am not understanding this question. By the way, did you know that the "Philosopher's Stone" is a real thing? You do, I expect, know that was the British title for the Harry Potter Book. It was supposed to make the producer live longer and turn lead to gold. Yes, it goes back that far. Don't take these arts without deep and serious soul searching. Follow the path of light, do good for all.

You probably know that there is real magick because you know that it is actually spelled with a k.
Anyway, I am a Wiccan and a witch. Yes magick is VERY real. It is also dangerous so if you are going to try it make sure that you understand it.
No, Harry Potter magic is not real (notice that I didn't use a k). It is the fantasy work of the famous author J.K. Rowling.
That is the difference between white and black magick. White helps and protects (the magick I practice). Black is for hurting and cursing and ultimately destroys the user (I would not reccomend it)
Hope this helps!

The term Wizard doesn't really apply with Magick. The are real Witches (I am one), and I think Black magick is practoced in some parts of the world. Harry Potter is fictional, as is the magic from it. True magick is not really black or white. It is how it is cast and what is in the heart of the practitioner that makes it good or bad.

JK Rowling's books about Harry Potter are fiction.
They are fun. They are full of marvellous detail and wonderful characters but they are still fiction.
The world of Harry Potter is no more real than The Wizard of Oz, or TV shows like Bewitched or Charmed or Sabrina... These are stories meant to entertain and the magic in them are illusions and special effects.
The whole black magick and white magick thing is just a way of grouping certain kinds of behaviour as 'good' or 'evil'.
So this is not really about magic it's about what you do with it. Magic is not good or evil. Saying someone practises "black magic" is like saying a scientist is doing "black chemistry" if they use it to make poison or explosives... "white" or "black" are silly ways to describe it. It is not different because the same techniques are used for both - it is just the way that you are applying your skill.
Magic is certainly real - every day everyone on this planet creates numerous changes in their lives and in their environment. They shape their world with their fears and their hopes and their desires and their beliefs. The people you call witches and wizards are different only because they are conscious of what they are doing - they try to make these changes on purpose instead of accidentally, which is the way most people do it.

There is no difference...it's all magic and magic is colorless. You don't need a rainbow array of skittle colors to describe its functions.
Most people think of magic and think of The Craft. I'm sorry to say, The Craft is Hollywood. Although some witches can be special effects artists....not all special effects artists are witches.
What you are trying to do is seperate different uses of magic and call it a different level of magic. *lasigh* that's so High School. Magic is Magic, if its not used it waits to be used...it has no dark omnious purpous nor does it have some brilliant blinding white pure purpous. It just is. If you wish to give it a color call it gray, or mud, ooh ooh neutral tone.
There is no difference in the magic, the only difference is the people that use the magic. Anyone can use it for any purpose, just be prepared for the paradoxy consequences that always find their way around. energy can not be created from no where, believe it or not there is a physics rule that stands behind it. If you utilize energy for one thing...you are taking it from somewhere else, be it from a plenty source or from something a little more noticeable. Everyone always wants to begin with the Copperfield tricks, meaning doing something flashy. If you haven't mastered the basics, you will never learn the flashy "cool" things.
By that I mean...you have to start at the bottom and work your way up to the top to understand it all and be able to flow and grow. If you only begin at the top, you won't value the little things.
Oh and to clarify things...magic is only spelled with a "K" when one...you are purposely setting our to appear ignorant and two...you are attempting to differentiate yourself from the real world of English Grammar.

Do not underestimate the limitless powers that lay dormant within the mind. Some humans have lineage to the Sumerian's who where among the first to inhabit this planet. Performing acts that people call wizardry was natural and didn't give it a thought. From what I have read, their unnatural feats of the mind where feared by the hominids of that time. they were the men of renown, the ones who saw that the woman among men were beautiful and mated with them. Today's witchcraft is play, but by those who are not adept should not try these things that witches do at home as they are close but are going about things in a pagan way. witch craft pails in comparison to Sumerian master's capabilities of the mind.

Magic is just moving in concert with nature, using the energy of the universe in a positive manner. All things are possible when your actions are guided by the powers of life. Bad magic is using the forces of nature to hurt some one or to force your will on another. It is never a good practice. You've heard the phrase "What goes around comes around." Wiccans believe that when you cause an action with a negative effect the negative is returned to you 3 times. Magic works, you just have to believe.

Most of the flashy-blatant magic of the movies is very difficult in this reality. It's like trying to do flashy martial arts maneuvers underwater. The concept is valid, but the enviroment just doesn't allow it.
But, yes, magic is real. And subtle effects are possible. But as with anything, it requires a combination of talent, training and practice.
As far as "good" and "bad", those are human characteristics. And thus, present in anything humans do.

First of all magick is neither black or white, its what you do with it, just like guns are good or bad depending on how they are used. second magic like harry potter's is possible but why bother with that when there are more effecient mundane ways of doing things.
