God being an omnipotent, omnipresent, omniscient, and eternal being gives people purpose, where believing in an alien does not give them this same sense of cosmic significance. An alien is merely a creature like us, who is finite, limited in intellect, and with powers that have little efficacy. The belief in all powerful being ultimately gives humanity hope in that no matter how bad things get, there is someone who is always by our side who is capable of turning things around, righting the wrongs, and balancing the scales of justice. A finite creature coming from another planet imparts no greater sense of purpose or hope, than believing that an unknown race exists on an uncharted island somewhere in the Pacific.
The attraction of believing in God is rooted in his limitless power and in his eternal essence. This eternal aspect of his existence gives us some justification that there is something after this life, and what we do truly matters eternally. So if we were to assume that both belief in aliens and belief in God were mere conjecture on man’s part, it is wise to believe in God, even if he is only an abstraction, because it benefits mankind.

They took a pole at school and more people believed in aliens than the did God.

I believe in aliens...they are right there over the border taking all your jobs away. I'd rather keep my faith in God...aliens will rob you blind and laugh as they spend all your money.
