How old is your friend? If you are leery of this friend watching it, tell him/her the plot and ask if it would be a bad experience. The film actually has no blood, there are no skeletons. You don't really see anything.
The problem might be that it presents a point of view that may be disturbing: that we continue "living here" and there is really "no death, heaven, nor hell" as such. I just don't like the spiritual implications.
I am a practicing Catholic, and I would think those children deserved to go to heaven. They had been baptized and were getting ready for Communion. There was no reason for them to be there and not happy with God. The mom, on the other hand, had shot them. I don't think she should be in hell because I think she lost her mind from the pain she'd been through. She, at worst, should be in Purgatory, not at the house in peace. The husband was the worst because he abandonned them, but he might be forgiven because his life was also hard.
None of them deserve hell. Most of them should be in heaven.
Also, the mom, a seemingly good Catholic has failed to grasp the truth about Jesus: LOVE and JUSTICE. She prays and it does nothing... That is just NOT TRUE.
God exists and He is fair, although movie directors are not.

i think your friend should, maybe watch it in the day time i did and it didn't seem as scary.

I don't see why not. Not scary. suspensful with a good ending though.
