I have the chance to live in a European country for a year. Its between Italy and England. I have been to Italy before and I absolutely loved it....its everything I have always dreamed of, so obviously it was the first place I thought of.

I have never been to England, however I have always been fascinated with it. I enjoy the history of it, and the culture and so on.

Do you see my dilemma? So, if language or money wasn't a problem which country would you choose and why? Please don't just say "England" or "Italy", because that doesn't help me much.

And if you need to know something else about me or my situation to help give advice and I'll answer. Thanks for your help!

sorry, that last part didn't make sense.....I meant to say "And if you need to know anything else about me or my situation to help you give advice ask me and I'll answer.".....I left out the ask part, lol.

Rich B....I have asked this question before, but when I asked it last time most of the people just said the name of the country and didn't tell me why they chose it. Thanks for the answers!

I would go back to Italy; it sounds like a very special place to you. Plus, what if you are disappointed in England? Then where would you be?

At any rate, I would not go to England, unless you are ready to face the disappointment if it doesn't turn out that great. Good luck!

Italy, for its scenery and its food. England also has a more significant problem with terrorist activity. Unless you move around a lot, you will most likely get somewhat use to your surroundings. The people that you meet could then serve as perhaps the most memorable part of the trip. So I think an important question is did you like the Italian people? And try to find out what the people are like in the part of England that you would be staying at.

Why don't you try England this time even if you have visited Italy and you loved it, you still have a chance to visit another country that you find fascinating. Like you said you never been to England therefore you don't know England so you can't compare it to Italy at this time. Be adventurous and go to England so that next time you have something to compare it to and who knows maybe you'll think England is better than Italy but at least you'll be able to compare and enjoy. I'm sure both countries are lovely and interesting. Good Luck and have fun!!!!!

I vote for England. Why? Because a) you have a great interest in it; b) you've already had the privilege of experiencing Italy, so use this opportunity to experience something new; c) when you're older, you may not (or may, who knows) have the chance to travel like this, so being able to visit as many different cultures as you can while you can, is a good idea; d) England is the birth country of the US...you may learn a lot about your own heritage and perception of the US by living there and exploring the history and conceptions.

I haven't been to either place, and I have always wanted to visit both places. My friends just love Italy, but never been to England. I don't know about the weather in Italy, but England is kind of like the Pacific NW here in the states...rainy.

How long were you in Italy? If it was for a month or two, maybe you need to explore it more. Did you go to Cinque Terre on the coast of italy? http://www.cinqueterre.it/en/index.asp

The place I'd like to visit in England are the countryside. I'd go there first just b/c of language. But if I spoke Italian, I'd go there b/c of the rich art history and architecture.

I believe that going back to Italy would be nice, but, what would be the point? To me, to visit a foreign country is all about seeing new things.. and, sure, I'm sure you didn't see everything in Italy the first time, but, heck, give England a chance..
I have been to Italy, but, not England.. grins, when I win the lotto, I want to go..
I love Naples, and Rome, and Taranto, and the Isle of Capri, and Rhodes..
but, I've seen them..
and I bet you have too, go to England! :)

I have never been out of the country, so this is an uninformed opinion. I would say Italy because it seems more exotic. Also you know you like it there and I would assume that the culture Is more different than ours and more could be absorbed. Also the weather appeals to me more than the damp and gloomy impression of England I have. I envy you your decision and hope you have a wonderful and fulfilling year!

Live in Germany, almost everyone of your age speaks English, it is very central you can see a lot of other countries and the architecture, the history and the scenery is wonderful. Its a skip and a jump to France, Belgium, Holland, Austria, Spain, Italy and England, Denmark. A lot of commercials are in English, advertisements. Travel by train all over Europe. Trust me, you'll love it

I would suggest England because of the history, the Architect, the waterways the have, the history of Scotland Yard. Buckingham Palace. Heathrow Airport. Shakespeare. The history of the English playwrights. All the Castles out there. My brother visited out there when he was in the Army and had a tour over in Germany.

It's time to discover something new. You loved Italy, so why not go back some day. But a completely new experience would be good for you.
