Bassets have long, tough nails. They will root around, pawing and scratching their tummies/chest against the carpet. I would suggest a heavy traffic carpet in rust or brown tones.

I'm getting new carpet this week. I have 2 dogs. I love berber the best. Doesn't show any footprints, etc. Get nylon, not olefin. Nylon is much softer. Get something speckled that won't show accidents. It actually does clean up nicely.

I would suggest ceramic tile or pergo flooring. Carpet holds pet odors and hair. Its alot easier to sweep up hair and misc from pets off a solid surface floor also these materials won't hold any odors

Scarey thought, seriously. Is this dog well potty trained? They may make a brand that repells doggie smell, etc.

I'd go for In-door out-door carpet. Or maybe a shag in brown.
