I need a book to read on the plane , it's about a 6 hour journey. I like horror, crime (fiction and non-fiction). But i read anything really.

I just read a book called "Last Place Seen." It is about a family whose daughter has Downs Syndrome and is lost in the moutains after a day hike...I can't remember the author at this moment, but it was great book!

Yikes, there's so many good ones out there.

For horror, Steven King is always a good bet. If you want to read the entire six hours the Stand is a good bet. It's a post apocalypse epic with his usual supernatural twist. The Dark Tower books are also wonderful, engrossing reads.

For crime books, if you'd like something a little bit lighter, the Stephanie Plum books are absolutely hysterical; they are fairly quick reads, so you might want to pack more than one. I believe there are like twelve of them, but I'm not entirely sure; I've found, though, that they don't necessarily need to be read in order after you've read the first one.

Just some generally good books to pass the time would be White Oleander for a serious read, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood (the movie was good but the book is better by far) for something a bit funnier. The last time I flew I spent the entire time reading Outlander by Diana Gabaldon and thus fell in love with her work.

I hope this was helpful.

Right - a 6 hour journey and you won't want to carry more than one book onto the plane, so that lets out all the bright sparks suggesting series. The Left Behind Series also assume you are a christian who believes in the imminent arrival of the Rapture.

For 6 hours of good solid reading I'd go for a one volume edition of The Lord of the Rings (if you haven't read it already) or one of Dicken's longer novels.

If you're used to long novels I'd go for Bleak House, a book about Victorian England and the people trying to live decent lives in it. If you're not, try Pickwick Papers, it's the first of his proper novels and, though the first 30 pages are a bit slow, it soon gathers speed and hurtles along happily showing good triumphant, bad made ridiculous and love conquering nearly all.

I agree with an earlier suggestion to try the Stephanie Plum series, written by Janet Evanovich--totally hysterical. You will need 2 or 3 to last a 6 hour trip (depending on how fast you read)..I think they get funnier as they go along--my personal favorites are numbers 10 and up. I would also recommend the Vampire Queen Betsy series by Mary Janice Davidson...Undead and Unwed is, I believe, the first one. Don't take it unless you don't mind people staring at you for cackling like a hyena the whole time you're reading, though--I took one on a 3 hour plane trip and had to keep putting my hand over my mouth to avoid annoying people who were trying to sleep. Truly hilarious!

by Simon Winchester

Non -fiction Criminal Insanity and genius. Good chapter lengths to pick up and put down. I read it during travel.

"The Hottest State" by Ethan Hawke, (yes, the actor). It's kinda of a love and hate story. No crime, or horror. Just the love life of an everyday guy in his 20's. Very good.

The DiVinci Code
or
Angels and Demons

Both are Dan Brown books...they are quick reads, entertaining, and decent choices for a long plane ride.
