i was thinking of upgrading my macbook thats 512mb to 1gigs or 2gigs. how much money do you think it would be

Check pricewatch. com or Kingston or Crucial.com for memory prices. They have configuation software that lets you choose the right memory for you.

As an apple tech i must warn you that you MUST get ram that is macbook certified, and the only stuff on the market that is 100% guarnteed to be totally compliant is kingston. If you get ram that fits and is the right speed but not macbook compatable you can fry your main logic board and be without your computer for a few days. I recommend only kingston for that reason.
