It's the name of a weapon (magical staff) in a video game I play. I'd like to know if it means anything.

Anathema (Greek Word -Ανάθεμα-) meaning originally something lifted up as an offering to the gods; later, with evolving meanings, it came to mean:

to be formally set apart,
banished, exiled, excommunicated or
denounced, often misinterpreted to mean accursed.

It is from my language, Greek, and it means something that no one wants anything to do with. For example, for Orthodox Jews, pork is anathema.
