currently I am running windows XPwith the SP-2 package and am considering downloading the zone alarm firewall package, here are some questions I need help with.

1- will the SP-2 package interfere with the zone alarm download ?
2-will I have to disable my microsoft firewall before downloading zone alarm or will it explaine what to do step by step ?
3- I am currently running avast-av, spybot S&D and windows defender, will the new download have any affect on current programs.
4- any other suggestions would be appreciated, I am a little apprehensive about making these changes. Thanks

WindowsXP comes with a firewall. It is in the Control Panel. Isn't this sufficient for you? Cannot use two firewalls at the same time. They will just fight each other and drive you bananas.

If you still want the "zone alarm," I suggest when you are asked if you want to run or save, you select save.

Save the file to the desktop. Then double-click and run from there.

You could also create a "new folder" for the download, save it in that folder, and run it from there. Then you would have the program on your hard drive. If you care enough about it, you could then back it up on a flashdrive.

Personally I prefer hardware firewalls to software based firewalls such as Zone Alarm and Windows firewall. Just use a decent router for your internet connection and leave the Windows firewall in place. Do all your traffic filtering at the router.

1. No problem here

2, If I recall correctly. ZA wiil automatically disable uour Windows firewall.

3. In the past, Avast has indeed had problems with SOME versions of ZA, I believe ZA Pro. I have sucessfully used Avest with ZA free edition, myself without any problems. I would check with the Avest forum here:

No, SP2 will not interfere with the Zonealarm download.
No, Zonealarm will not interfere with anything if you don't want it to. Yes, you will need to switch off the Windows firewall.
