hmm.. good question.
I love the moon.
I think it creates mystery more than being mysterious itself.

Firstly, people have used the moon to tell the weather. Big rings means rain, and I think this is pretty accurate.
The moon has phases, so it has been used to keep time.
And the moon is what allows us to see some things at night without the direct light from the sun.
Kinda odd how it is so useful..?

It is really pretty. Sometimes it is gold, silver, red... Appears to be different shapes and different sizes. Then the mysterious 'dark side' of the moon.

It casts a soft light on things. When the sky is really clear, the light from the moon creates shadows. And of course shadows are mysterious. This also looks very beautiful.

The night is mysterious in general because our imaginations can run wild when we don't have our eyes telling us what all is out there. - The moon is what gives us just enough light.

There really isn't a reason for the moon to be there other than to help us or to add interest to the night. The sun obviously is needed for life, no mystery to why it need be there, but the moon doesn't sustain life, but adds beauty.

And hearing songs that mention the moon make you like it more. My fav. being "To the Moon and Back" by Savage Garden. "I would fly to the moon and back if you'd be my baby. Gotta ticket for a world where we belong-"

Lastly.. in the bible, it mentions somewhere about the end of the world, that there will be blood on the moon or something like that.

If you're a hopeless romantic, i'm sure you can think of a few good reasons. If you know what the moon is, a big rock, then not much is mysterious.

It's beauty, movement , the effect it has on the ocean tides, the effect that it has on the human psyche, the way it can light up the night and lastly when you are ever lucky enough to see a Yellow or Red moon..... you will also become entranced.

I don't know, mabye b/c it really pretty, but I think it lost a lot of its mystery now that we have visited the moon.

Oh I am so glad you asked this question. I worship the moon. Honestly. I never fail to notice it and I believe it is sacred.. It is the reflection of everything that is soft and gentle in life, hanging in the night sky right before us. It reminds us to be silent and wise, to be still and know that there is more to life than the frantic sunlight of our daily lives.

Blue Moon, you saw me standing alone,
Without a dream in my heart,
Without a love of my own,
Blue moon, you knew just what I was there for,
You heard me saying a prayer for,
Someone I could care for,
And then there suddenly appeared before me,
Someone my arms could really hold,
I heard you whisper "Darling please adore me,"
And when I looked to the moon it had turned to gold,

Blue moon, now I'm no longer alone,
Without a dream in my heart,
Without a love of my own.

Oh, if you have to ask...it can never be explained. I am not being wise...it is just all people are different in the way that they percieve certain things, and the mysteries that dwell around our existence and the things therein, tops that list.

The word lunatic comes from the moon. Why don't you find one of them and ask.
