Anything can be done with enough time, money, and tools but it is not practical...converting a gas engine to run on alcohol,or propane is relatively easy but diesels do not operate like gas engines in regards to ignition to initiate combustion. GM tried this in the 70's by using gas engine designs converted to diesel in an attempt to bring a simple cheap alternative to expensive gas and poor fuel mileage at the time -it failed miserably. Diesel engines are built much sturdier to withstand the higher compressions necessary .

YEA & they did it back in the 80's to Oldsmobile 350 engines & they didn't last to long because they didn't beef up the lower end & alot of them gernaded.IF U have ALOT of $$ U don't need. Most people junked the diesels conversions & put gas engines back in.I was there - been there - done that - changes a few !

No. Diesels use a completely different ignition system. The fuel filtering system, fuel pump, carburation system . . . may as well get a diesel to begin with. Modification costs would be outrageous.
