if parents are the first or primary educators for our children, why is there so much crime and drugs, and just over all bad stuff, shouldnt there be a law as to who gets to have children? thats a bit farfetched but i think that it would make the world better, if important things were taught by someone who is qualified, and most parents are no where near qualified.

i agree bad kitty, i dont think that you understand what i was saying, i think that parents should take more responisiblity for their children and not blame society or the school, and if they were doing a good job at raisng their children then this world would be better.

I have to combat the violence and sex on TV. I mean when they are selling bubble gum with sexual innuendo..we've got a problem. I censor the TV like nobodies business. Even Nick. But there is only so much shielding you can do. Some things slip on through despite best efforts. I have to fight racism too. My family is not, but we live in a small town..in the south no less...and it is still here. Religion..like i said I live in a small town in the south...oh man..talk about judgmental. Schools...My son goes to a good one, educational wise. But the majority of the teachers and staff are judgmental, and even a little bit racist. I have to fight to raise my child right. I have to fight against the schools, the t.v, churches, society in general. It is very hard to raise well rounded, emotionally balanced children who are non judgmental and accepting of others, when everything around you is undermining you.

Responsible parents are ALWAYS the first line of education, whether (we) like it or not. Parents are the ones who should be flailed when thier offspring wear *** crack revealing clothing to school. Or body piercing. Or tatoos. Or _________ (fill in the blank). Parenting IS NOT overrated. Under parenting is overrated. Children shouldn't be having children and expecting mama and papa or "The System" to raise them. Society is going to **** based on the lack of morality, common sense, and a "System" to bail us out when we need it. Public schools will teach our children precious **** as far as morality and decency are concerned. That is the job of the parents, who, unfortunately, don't do the job most of the time. We'll all learn from society, as I have, to dis-trust the "system" we live in. What has it accomplished? A generation or two (with a few more upcoming) of lazy, stupid ingrates with no self esteem. Much less any skills to provide for themselves. Surely none of us is born a bigot. Most of us are not raised to be one. So how do we learn to be a bigot, a sceptic, a racist even? I'll tell you how, if you need to be told, and here's the answer: By learning by that which we see, experience, feel and pay for, that's how.

Overrated??? Parents are the only people who are ultimately responsible for educating children on all of those things! Children are not the responsibility of the school system or of society at large. The purpose of school is to provide a formal education, which does not include personal opinion or behavior modification. Society as a whole (i.e. all of us) is not responsible for raising, or paying for, other people's children. And how could parenting possibly be overrated? People who don't intend to be parents have no business having children. If you aren't going to raise your kids, don't try to force the responsibility for them onto the rest of us.

It should be the parents. A teacher should just have to teach them whatever subject they happen to be teaching. Several studies have said that the first five years of a child's life are the most important. Schools and society have a very limited affect on them at that age. Parents need to accept the responsibility of raising their children.

Parents need to teach their children these things. There is only so much that you can do though. They will form their own opinions through talk at school and as they grow up and make observations in society.

All the above and the choice of life the child chooses to take.
Ex. My nephew grew up without a father, in proverty, Mother on drugs. Chose to do something else with his life. And I must say I am Really proud of him. Where as his sister chose to follow in her mothers footsteps. Both had the same of everything but chose different paths in life.

Parents without a doubt.

You need to pass a test and get a license to drive, yet there are absolutely no qualifications necessary to become a parent.

Parents should be the first educators, sadly many parents neglect this job.

This has no longer something to do with inner maximum colleges. It has to do how permissive mum and dad are. I stay in NYC and function 2 important Catholic colleges close to my development. by no skill have I seen a female in her short skirt uniform "flashing her thongs to shape workers". Catholic college uniforms, are for women skirts, to their knees !
