you should be able to get a hamster at a local pet store; or atleast a pet store in the nearest city. they are reasonably inexpensive. there are several kinds of hamsters from teddy bear to dwaft chinese hamsters. I would approximate the cost of a hamster, between $7, for a more common breed, to $20, for something more rare. A cage will proubably run you between $20 and $40. we have had many hamsters over the years, and have had only one "with a bad attitude." most make excellent pets, and most people say, that they are more personable than gerbils (we've had them too). I have loved all of the hamsters I have ever had the pleasure to know; if you are gentle and loving to them; they will give you love and gentle kindness in return. good luck with your new little friend. anymore hamster questions; feel free to write

First buy you cage 2nd hand... look in the penny saver. You can usually pick up a nice cage for next to nothing. The animal will cost about 5 to 10 depending upon the place you buy it. Also check with the humane sociaty as you can get pets like this for very cheap!
