~Finding out if it's real or not is quite simple. Bite it. If your teeth break, it is real. Or hit someone with it. If they take umbrage, it is real. If neither of the above effects occur, it is probably imaginary.

To determine if it is indeed a meteorite is another matter, but you didn't ask that.

Just a passing thought. If it is a meteorite and you have been handling it, hope and pray like hell that it is not contaminated by some exotic lethal alien microbe.

If it was mine, I wouldn't go within 100 yards of it without a haz-mat suit, and I'd think twice about that. My uncle Jeff saw one hit while camping up around Churchill Bay back in '63 and he retrieved it. He was dead two weeks later. The doctors still aren't sure what he had, but the caribou to this day don't go within a kilometer of the site where the thing hit.

A real meteorite would have fusion marks on it as it experienced intense heat on his way to the ground. If it does take it to the nearest University's astronomy department. Remember that it is worth at least $10 000.

Take it to the farm extension office they can tell you if it is.
Probably want to put it in a museum or something.
