In Evolutionary terms the egg is much older The egg was used to protect the offspring of fish then dinosaurs then birds. The chicken is merely a species of bird and would have evolved more recently, with the chicken we see today being a product of selective breeding. If you want to think of it this way then two birds that were the parents of the first chicken laid the first chicken egg which hatched and became the first chicken

The thing is we're not talking about the same egg and chicken.
First there was an egg and out came a chick which became a chicken and then the ckicken laid another egg which became a chicken...... and so on.

A chicken egg (by definition) hatches a chicken, so the egg came first. It's parent was chicken-like but not a chicken.

the egg and it slowly evolved into a chicken. that is what a evolutionary theorist would say. Probably came from a reptile most birds did. It was tested and science says the egg. Don't believe me check out the site below.

Chickens reproduce via eggs, so you'd have to have a chicken before you could re-produce it. Like you can't make photocopies without an original, yeah?

The answer you take depends on if you believe God created the world(as it is now) if so then its the chicken, if not and you believe in evolution then it would be the egg.

How many times in the last year have you eaten chicken. God created the chicken to feed us and the chicken lays the eggs to keep it going. This is the only animal that we eat before it's born and after it's dead.

the egg was first. it was inside a pre-chicken type bird. Through random mutation of the genes (evolution), it came out a chicken, and not a pre-chicken type bird.
