It's a tough city. Dirty too. I lived there most of my life, and got out twenty years ago.

Once it was a great place.

It's ugly without the Twin Towers.

People all own dogs up there and they go around with plastic bags picking up after them, but before that law, it was all over the place.

It changed over the years.

I never enjoyed my life living up there. I believed I only was living there temporarily. Neighbors were mostly queer and strange and even violent. Drugs now rule the city. I saw the writing on the wall.

Now I'm enjoying my life.

With 9/11 approaching, watch the shows about all those poor people who were there on that tragic day. Don't they seem so lost?

I was like that once. Now I'm okay.

New York City should be totally evacuated.

Does it not depend where you are in New York? Perhaps some districts are less cared about...a bit like London really. West of Piccadilly is well cared for, but districts south of the Thames and certain parts of north London (Harlesden a case in point) is pretty depressive.
Both cities have not only over seven million people, but a fair wave of tourists. Waste from both groups spoil the aesthetics from ground level.

Of course it's very ugly. Just a "big supermarket" as George Carlin said. It's not a place for living and enjoying, it's just for making money. Very tasteless and backward. Almost no trees! Even big parks doesnt save the situation. Parks themselves are very very boring and looking so artificial. I afraid this catastrophe is in the whole US :( I afraid american people doesn't know how to live...

I have seen many cities in this country and I think that there are a lot of good cities out there. I do believe that in a country of great cities that NYC shines above them all. Some cities may do one thing better but I choose to live here.

No. It's not an ugly city, though it has some ugly areas. It's a beautiful city. I enjoy visiting the city.

hahahaha, yep, it's a tough 'hood, but i now live in between san diego and los angeles and i ain't never seen nothing worse. there is no city here, just palm trees and power lines. if you don't know the city, then it'll seem too rowdy for ya, but you can find ANYTHING and EVERYTHING in new york. so don't bag on nyc, there's certain parts of the world who have never felt the joy of shoving through crowds in the pouring rain at 7:00 in the morning. poor souls.

Well - I've only spent about 6hrs their and I thought it was a very nice city, at least what I saw of it. I didn't find it ugly at all, quite the opposite actually. Granted I've had limited exposure but I was impress with what I saw.

Well i think everywhere is ugly if you go to the right city..the same way someone can find beauty in that place. Nowhere is perfect, every state has slums, bad roads, rude people and so on. Its up to you to find the beauty. But yea its polluted but not as much as LA.
