Check your proxy settings within each messenger. Change it to let your messenger know that you're behind a firewall. Also check you're firewall settings in System preferences so that the ports that you need will be open. If you're in a school, then it might be an IT problem, and you're screwed.

Hi there...consider trying AdiumX (http://adiumx.com). It is a free instant messaging application for Mac OS X that can connect to AIM, MSN, Jabber, Yahoo, ICQ, Google and more. There's also a chance you're behind a firewall that is blocking you from using the messenging programs. If this is your personal computer you would need to unblock the firewall, however if it's a school or office they may not permit opening the ports.
Open System Preferences and click Sharing.
Click Firewall tab and make sure everything is deselected.
If you still are having trouble with consider using the free Apple Discussion forum: http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa to provide more solutions to help you get the IM's applications up and running. There are many advanced Mac users there who can help.

Either your internet is not 100% fully connected, you have viruses, or you have a firewall up.
Check your firewall. Can be found under the control panel. Make sure that it isnt stopping programs from running.
Unhook your internet cords, reconnect them.
If neither of these options work you need to scan for viruses. I recommend AVG Anti Virus, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Ad Aware. You can download all these for free from download.com.

AIM works fine with iChat. MSN might be a problem but you should be ok. Yahoo works with Macs, not sure if they are universal.
