Dean Guitars are the best, but a little expensive but you get what you pay for.....

The Schecter Synester Gates and Zacky V. signature guitars, are hands down some of the best metal guitars in the world.

You can have basically any guitar as long as you put EMG pickups, it'll sound heavier and more distorted. Zakk Wylde is a heavy metal guitarist, uses a Gibson Les Paul (isn't a specified heavy metal guitar) and he put EMG pickups in it. Now it sounds like a beauty.

(This isn't the answer you want.) Any solid body (hollowbodies can have feedback at loud volumes) light gauge (easier to bend the strings) stringed guitar will work! Use effects like distortion, overdrive, or fuzz & wah wah combined, to get the metal sound.

umm... Try a Schecter Omen-6, B.C. Rich Worlock, Epiphone or Gibson Les Paul Standard, An ESP
I have a Epiphone Les Paul Special II and i love it :D
