Recently I had a similar problem, was using an older Mac computer with MacOS10.4 , the instant message system worked but there was no sound. I suspect that some computers may not be able to handle the connection. Possibly there is an issue with how fast your connection might be, or the other person's. You need broadband, or ADSL I think.

skype nope it ok no problem at all try reinstalling it

maybe u can chk yr internet connections, contact yr subscriber if u hve to or juz uninstall n reinstall yr skype again, best if u can run a virus scan on pc pc 1st
