I would suggest the Bass. There are so many people out there learning the violin, you'd be a small fish in a big pond. Go for the bass and be a big fish in a small pond. Plus, you have much more opportunity to play the Bass in not just orchestra but in jazz band, concert band and much more.

I'd say bass, because you can play in jazz, orchestra and in your own band! Then when you get your fingers good on the strings try violin.

If you like to be the center of attention, go for violin. Otherwise bass. Depends if you like to play the main melody or background (there are exceptions of course). Why not cello or viola?

it depends...i play the violin and it's the best instrument i've ever played, and a lot of ppl tell me i'm REALLY good for only 2 years of playing...try playing both of them and see which one you like better...do NOT take the one you don't like but are good at...it's just a waste of time..
