Gays can't be macho men, so it opens the door to all kinds of hazing.

(No one said football players were tolerant)

A lot of a player's standing in the sport comes from the image he can sell to the fans and to the team owners, and, sadly, even with all of the reform that has been going around gay rights in Europe, there's a lot of prejudice and hate against homosexuals. Therefore, if a player decided to come out, even at lower competitive levels, he would be commiting career suicide. In addition, football is a team sport, and a lot of the players are just as or even more prejudiced than the rest of the public, so they are not going to embrace such declarations with open arms.

It's disconcerting to see that clubs would be more likely to sign people like Roy Keane or Thomas Gravesen than an openly gay player with their same level.

Because then people won't look at them as great football players, they forever become the gay football player, they get judged and scrutinized for every action they take. People get weirded out and paranoid. We need to grow up. Fact that some dude is sleeping with a man and not a women should have nothing to do with sports. Unfortunately it becomes a big deal whether people admit it or not.

it's a money thing, blokes watch football because 'it's a man game' and although it's unfair to say being gay is not manly, and then you have the women who watch football for the men, dream's of being Mrs Beckham etc etc, if players admitted they were gay most of the above mentioned supporters well might leave so then you set off a chain of events, the support for the club would go down and the income from sales of merchandise would fall to a great low, then sponsorship would be hard to get and that is worth mil's..... so yes i believe its all to do with money!!!!

Because they wouldn't be accepted in that situation. It would be used as ammunition by other teams etc. There was an openly gay footballer called Justin Fashanu and he became the target of constant crowd abuse because of it.
He later hanged himself in 1998 due to sexual assault charges.

in this world where being gay means being a social out cast, who's gonna play football with a gay man?

It's a team sport and gays play for the other team. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Also they sometimes mistake the "alley oop" play for an alley oops play.

Some coaches are homo-phobics, they won't play players if they're homosexuals.

I think its stupid, I also think the out-games are stupid. They want people to treat them the same, but they treat themselves diffrently.
