Absolutely. You cannot go wrong with thank you notes. Make them handwritten and mail them if possible. It's the least you could do after they took the time to come to the party and buy a gift.

I always appreciate thank you notes for any occasion..I think it is a lost art. Go for it. It would be so nice.

It never hurts to send a thank you note.... lets them know you appreciate their gift. It doesn't have to be long, just "Thank you for your ____ I am sure little Robert will enjoy it! Your thoughtfulness is appreciated. Sincerely, _______"

It would be polite, if you know them well a phone call would be appreciated or pick up a pack of thankyou cards and write a short but sweet personal thankyou to let them know you liked it....
