My sophomore class is putting on a blackout dance in the small gym right after a football game but we're a little short on cash and can't spring for a DJ. We have radios, boomboxes, and I'm putting all the songs we want to play on a Cd. Does anyone have any idea of how we can get the music loud and not spend a lot of money on it? THANKS!!!<3

What is your approx. budget?

Even though I don't know your budget, I'll give it a shot.
Here are some options :

Option 1

Get a powered 3-piece (2 speakers and 1 subwoofer) speaker system used for computers. Plug it into your boombox's
headphone output. In fact, any headphone output will do
You can connect an Ipod or any other portable mp3 device.
If use an Ipod (if you own one or if you can borrow one) Instead of using a CD boombox. You can make a long playlist so you'll
have a continuous supply of songs.
With the CD boombox, you'll still need to change discs.

There's two models that got my attention.
Logitech® Z-2300 2.1 Speaker System
$149.99 at Circuit City.
It has an 8" subwoofer and 200 watts!!

Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 Multimedia Speaker System (3-Piece)
Model: 2.1
$156.99 at Best Buy.

There are less expensive models available, but they might not be
loud enough for a small gym.

Option 2

Get an inexpensive home theater system.
There's one from Sony.
The "Sony HT-DDW700"
http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-Home-Theater-System-HT-DDW700/sem/rpsm/oid/147320/catOid/-13325/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

You'll need a Y-adapter cable(one 3.5mm mini to two RCA) to connect your boombox(or Ipod) to the home theater system.
An example of the type of Y-adapter cable you need (there are different types of Y- adapter cables out there) is shown
in the link below

You can get a cheaper one if you choose.

If you have enough money, a stand alone CD player or changer
would sound better than the boombox(or Ipod)/Y-adapter combination.
below are some less expensive CD players/changers.

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-CD-Player-CDP-CE375/sem/rpsm/oid/36966/catOid/-12900/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

You can also consider getting a DVD player or changer. They can play CD's and all kinds of formats including mp3 CD. The single players are really cheap. The changers cost about the same as plain CD changers.
here's some DVD players and changers:

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Polaroid-DVD-Player-DHM-0100/sem/rpsm/oid/124117/catOid/-12873/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Philips-DVD-Player-DVP642/sem/rpsm/oid/100066/catOid/-12873/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Sony-5-Disc-DVD-CD-Changer-DVPNC85HB/sem/rpsm/oid/146243/catOid/-12873/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do

If you decide to get a DVD player/changer, you can use it with the
home theater system for movies. All you need is a TV.

Anywayz, Good luck with your party.
