I love the era of the Puritans coming to the 'new world'. I love the era of the old west, and the 1920's-1940's. I feel good when I read about them...like I'm in touch with my roots. I love the Civil War era in history...and reading about the wagon trains coming across and settling the states westward one by one. If I could choose to live during a time other than now, it would probably be during the early 1800's. I wouldn't try to say that I'd enjoy the hardship of those times, but I am endeared by the closeness of family, friends and community, and by the simplicity of everyday life. Yes it was a difficult, HARD existence, but nobody put you on hold...ever.

A lot more was going on during those historical times than the wars and plagues and other horrific occurrances. My parents fell in love during the Great Depression, and my Grandparents still held Sunday dinner, and everyone was invited...fresh baked ham with all the trimmings. People borrowed sugar from next door SAFELY, and nobody resented it. Cars were made to last forever, and so was most everything else. You married your next door neighbor or your sister's best friend, and stayed together through thick and thin. A lot more went on during historical times other than the things that made them history.

Yes, I love to read about certain eras in history. It's a shame how most school classes make history so dry and boring. Some of it is so fascinating! Sometimes I wish I could visit various times and places. I have done some reenacting and it was so much fun - for a weekend. But, honestly, I (especially as a woman) I would not want to live permanently in any other time. My wonderful husband, my two healthy children, my home are all so much more than any woman could wish for in any other time in history. I love having the freedom to be who I want to be.

I know the feeling, I love the 40s and 50s not to mention the 1600s. I was always drawn to them. I liked the 40s and 50s because women dressed like women! Women acted like it was a gift to be a woman and didn't complain about it. In the 40s they showed they were just as strong as men by taking over all the factory jobs and flying empty bombers across the US so our soldiers/heroes could fight the war to free other people that were oppressed and assure our security in the US.

I always fantasise about living in the middle ages. Some of those fashions were totally wak. Also the artworks were much more stylised. And the gothic architecture was cool. Go to Barcelona and immerse yourself in the Gothic Quarter. Check out the carvings. Of course if I were living in that time I wouldn't want to be a peasant. Then it would just be toil, poverty and disease. And you can get that right now if you live in the wrong place.

I like the antebellum south, especially New Orleans history prior to American takeover, when it was still very French in how things were done there. I would like to travel back and see that first hand. I would also like to have been around during the American Revolution...its so romanticized today I highly doubt the colonist felt that way then.

My college years! I love it, 1976 to 1980. I go back in time whenever I hear the Bee Gees sing, "If you leave me Now".
