sorry it sounds sick, but my 9month old son is getting up through the night because he is coughing and coughing...first it was a congested nose, I believe we have fixed that problem but now its' in his throat and although we can just spit it out...he cant and he just coughs and gets choked with it...and can't sleep. like las night. Went to bed at 10pm, woke up at 12am, didnt go back to sleep cause of a constant caugh till about 2am, and this has been for about 2 weeks. We have tryed the Saline drops for his nose, Pediacare coughs/congestion. And now the doctor told me to give him Dimatapp but thats only for a congestion for his nose...what about the crap thats in his throat...how do I get that out...or clear it...dry it out?

u really need to get him back into see a doctor, has no1 mentioned Asthma to u? maybe ur child is going to be asthmatic, coughing alot in the night is 1 of the first symptoms but u will need to talk it through with a doctor as there r other symptoms as well, please take him back to the doctor and ask about asthma, i don't want to worry u but IF it is asthma there are certain drugs that can make things alot worse, don't give him ibuprofen til u find out what is causing the coughing, i've just read some of the other answers, if u buy any medication for him make sure there u ask the chemist if it wud be ok for asthmatics and tell them he MIGHT be asthmatic

Make certain to give him plenty of fluids, it will help with breaking things free. The phlegm in his throat is coming from the running off of the congestion (sorry if it's kind of gross), so your doctor's suggestion of Dimetap should help. And if he needs some help, they make a suction device for infants to help clear their noses and throats. It can be scary and a little painful for them, so try not to use it too much or you would cause irritation. But if you have to use it, then do.

I would follow doctor's advice. Not Claritin-that's for children over 2 yrs old. Mucous dripping causes a cough. My trick is to HOLD my kids in my arms while the bathroom fills with hot steam from the faucets. It's good for them to cough and keep it loose rather than thickening. It's ok to miss sleep because he is, too! Good Luck!

I say increase water and cut back on milk late in the evening. And get to a doctor. It might be serious congestion or allergens in his bedroom that may need some child medication to help.

My opinion. I think you need to call your doctor and ask, but the doctor will probably want to see the child. I feel that it has continued long enough. The child need more help. You might want to buy a thing to suction his throat out if it gets too bad. I know they sell them but don't know what they are called.
