Get yourself a Nationwide Building Society account and there are no charges when drawing money out abroad unlike everyone else.
I went to Australia and NZ for 12 months last year it was the best advice anyone gave me before I left.

We have a Nationwide Account and been abroad with this several times they do not charge for withdrawals or using your credit card with them

We are with HSBC if you are with them for a while before going abroad they are great!!! we have just taken money out aboard and have got a really good rate and not been charged for it! Better htan what we could have got before going out!!!

HSBC is the worst bank!
They charged me 1.75 for using another HSBC bank. in Taiwan, 'the worlds local bank' my a*se!

hsbc suck, dont bother ringing them unless you want to speak to an indian woman named 'julie' who cant understand a word you say.
they have ridiculously high interest charges on their cards and loans too.
