If you are looking for slasher movies, then I don't know, but if you are looking for a movie that is supenseful and has a good story line try the following:

gee, everybody's answers are real good. we just saw the original hills have eyes from the 70's and it was actually pretty good!! it wasn't too corny and my husband got his brother over to watch it too.

there are some older suspense/thrillers that are scary, like the birds or the original body snatchers
gory and/or disturbing would be hostel, wolf creek or silent hill

IMO, all of the most recent horror movies are corny. The last good one i saw was The Grudge, and there was a loooong dry spell before that. Look for some classics, you probably haven't seen The Ugly, most people haven't.
