How does illegal drug use effect brain cells in a way that legal drugs do not?
Is there any proof of the "kills braincells" mantra?

Do a whippet and you can actually hear them dying...

Whow whow whow

Drugs like extacy and meth do kill more brain cells than all of the others combined. It is a proven fact.

They kill the receptors that keep serotonin and other brain chemicals flowing to the pleasure center of the brain. Ecstasy overloads these receptors and uses too much too fast which causes burn out and kind of closes off channels (so to speak) needed to regulate things like mood and body temprature and your sense of well being. (Your sanity)

Other drugs do the same... But I think that Ecstasy (and Meth too) is worse as far as actual, documented, obvious, long term use damage goes.

The body is a machine where it is in a constant state of regeneration, things dying and things being regenerated, cloning itself on a molecualr level for lack of a better description... Drugs prevent and hinder this process. SO they are not so much "Killing" brain cells, they cause damage to the process where by they regenerate themselves naturally and you're left with stupid left over used up cells to work with. Cocaine is famous for this exact thing. It causes such a flood of feeling to the brain, you start to rely on it as an artificial kind of intelligence that performs the bodies natural function and therefore disables it's ability to do it on its own or as fast....

When you do stop. It takes years to feel normal again. Which is why many ex addicts are placed on legal anti depression meds to be able to function which actually do the very same thing. It is like Methadone to a heroin addict... What's the difference?

Evidently, you've not had a friend of a friend or relative permanently disabled by drug use. I know a woman in Germany who used LSD in the 70's. She's in 50's now. Cannot function. Tries to commit suicide. Has to be committed most of the time. Her 2 children and husband have not had happy lives. Legal drugs kill brain cells too, especially when resold and used illegally.

legal or not legal is not the question...legal drugs kill brain cells too. Some drugs kill more than others but the problem is that many of the drugs that are legal are just as dangerous as illegal drugs but because doctors prescribe them there is less opportunity to misuse them.

the brain cells don't know whether the drugs are legal or illegal

it is how the drug is used that matters

if you are using a drug as prescribed by your doctor, then it is legal and you are probably doing the minimum damage possible that still provides the drug efficacy

if you are using any drug "recreationally" then you are deliberately wanging your brain with more of the drug than it can stand

some brain cells will be wanged to death

yes, the illegal drug mimic ure brain cells, (edocrine receptors) and then control ur body, ur brain cells have nothing to do and they die. That is y over exposure of illegal drugs can kill u. Medicinal drugs can also kill u in that thier chemical properties are extremely powerfull at a large quantity. BUT illegal drugs are extremely dangerous. Thier is infinite experiments been done, that have proved it.

Legal drugs are just as capable of doing it as well. Alcohol is a good example.

I object to your implication that legal drugs do no harm.

Many legal drugs do a lot of harm. Ever heard of chemotherapy? Tylenol? Alcohol?
