Talstar is a pestaside that containes "Bifenthrin."
It is the only thing that I know that kills Gnats and their larva.
If anyone knows where to find it please let me know.
Or if you have any other ideas.

Bifenthrin is also available from Scotts as ORTHO MAX for Lawns as a plain granular pesticide. Or it is the pesticide in Scotts Super Turf Builder Plus Summergard. Just about any Lawn & Garden or Lowes or Home Depot carries Scotts products. (If you get it at Lowes or HD the ORHO MAX would still be the same but the fert. would be Turf Builder instead of Super Turf Builder. With either product you just put it on and water the lawn.

Not sure how large an area you're trying to treat but here's another product you might consider; "GnatNot". It's a beneficial nematode that controls fungus gnats and other pests that spend a portion of their life in the soil.

I've experimented with benefecial nematodes in the past and found them to be quite effective. The nematode you'll be interested in obtaining is called; "Steinernema feltiae".

If you're not familiar with nematodes, they are very small worms (too small to see with the naked eye) that will find the larvae of certain pests (in the soil) and enter into their bodies. Once inside, they release a bacteria that kills the pest. The nematode will then reproduce and move on to kill other pests in the soil. These beneficials won't cause any harm to your plants or other beneficial insects...such as ladybugs.

Beneficial nematodes can be applied by mixing them with water and dispersed through a watering can, hose-end sprayer or a conventional garden sprayer.

There are various quantities available depending on the size of area you're treating.

There are probably many sources where you can find these nematodes but here's where you can find "GnatNot"; BioControl Systems. Phone 1-888-793-IBCS, 812-537-8674, 812-537-6652, 877-644-6416. OR e-mail to info@nematodary.com.

Hope this information was of some help. GOOD LUCK!
