i want a cute little turtle....do they grow are is there a type that stays small???

please make sure that you have a place for a turtle before you buy it and that you want the responsibility and don't mind the smell. one of the most common breeds to be found in the pet industry are the red eared sliders. they are only about 6-8 inches acrossed the back of their shell. some people keep them in an old tin tub and some, even the bath tub. they require room to "move." also, even though, I am sure that you are willing to clean you turtle quite often, the water (waste in the water, including defication and decaying food)can start to produce a horrid stench within an hour or two, so please be prepared for this, many people aren't and that's why there are alot of turtles either neglected or returned to the pet shop.

You mean those cute little green $5 turtles that grow 12" long?
You've got a LOT of research to do before purchasing a forty year or more pet. Try www.austinsturtlepage.com to research different species. I've got a common musk, he's about 3.5", but I don't know that I'd call him cute. All these "little" turtles still need at least a 20 gallon long all to themselves.

You are talking about Red-ear sliders- coin sized babies that frow to adults about 9-13" long and can live for 20+ years if you do it well.
They are not easy pets- it takes kind of a lot to make the right set-up and feed them right. The old 'turtle death trap' small bowl and 'turtle flakes' are thankfully hard to find at a reputable shop anymore.

I just recently got turtles again after a very long time of not having them. I had to get the tank and the filter and everything else that goes along with them. I purchased my red eared slider turtles from a website called http://www.turtlesale.com/ They ship them directly to your door. They were like $4.00 each. Good luck!

They cost around 10. Depends on the breed of turtle. You can buy them at most pet stores.

I got mine in NY...Queens to be exact. If your not in NY I'm not sure. I have 4 red sliders and to tell you the truth....I never thought I'd become attached to turtles, but i have! They do have a way about them! But the way I think we paid about $5.00 for 2.
When I was a kid ( long ago) Mom bought my sister and I turtles, and she paid 25 cents each! INFLATION!
