i want to know how to set up both ends of the connection. i tried but i couldnt get it to work. the computer i want to be the host is running xp home, the computer i want to be the client is running xp pro. the host computer is behind a Trendnet router (TEW-432BRP) but i has the vpn passthrough feature enabled, the client computer is connected directly to the cable modem. there is 2 admin accounts on the host i only want to connect to mine. i also want to know if i have to be logged on and if some else can use the host comp while im connected. i have access to all the comps setting and all the acounts and acces to any info about the ips of both comps.
whoever explains it to me best will get best answer, thunbs up and anything else i can give you...thnnx in advance

Part of this question is confusing. With VPN there is no host/client, its a straight data connection. The best way to do it is to have identical routers at each end that both have VPN capability. What are you trying to accomplish here?

i imagine you're confusing VPN with distant personal computer (RDP). homestead windows XP does no longer have any kind of VPN server means, surely homestead windows 2000/2003 Server does. if it is the case you may favor to initiate a sparkling question with regards to setting up distant personal computer over the internet.
