In Windows, to take a screenshot, press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard. To take a screenshot of a certain window(program) press Alt+Print Screen while that window is selected.

Either of these will copy the screenshot to the clipboard. From here you can open an image program, such as Paint, and paste the screenshot into the program.

Press the print screen key on your keyboard, then open Paint program, paste the screenshot into Paint then save the picture. Change it to a .jpg if you are going to send it to someone. (small file size)
