Most youths do care if they are aware of issues. That is the problem... most are completely ignorant to real issues.
Think about it... when you are a teenager, you aren't thinking of world issue... you are focused on getting your next CD.
But with that said, I have found that when you begin to have conversations about issues with them and educate them, they will get just as upset, etc.. as any other person.
They just lack exposure to issues. You don't find world news on mtv, ya know.

Loose-rs? Losers, L-O-S-E-R-S, Losers. Origin of the word? You're an idiot.
This reply basically shows how much (or little) the youth of America care about anything other than themselves. Our fathers, mothers, and even our grandparents have diluted us of the importance of knowing what happens in the world and in our own country. American children are spoiled, regardless of the income level they're raised in, American children work and learn less than children in underdeveloped countries. American youth are handed things on a silver platter that people used to have to work hard and strive for. Our children watch more television than EVERY other nation combined. They (the majority of them) do not read newspapers or news magazines, and when they're asked about where they get their news, they generally reply "The internet." A survey turned up some gut-wrenching results, when asked what specific news shows American youth are most likely to get their news from, over 30% replied Sportscenter and MTV News. Are you kidding me?
To give my specific opinions to the stated questions, I would say that indeed, America's youth do, in fact, comprehend the effects of events... Mostly though, they don't care.
They tend to pick one side or the other, in regards to backing republican or democratic political parties and/or leaders, yet most do not actually agree with the party they've sided with on even 50% of the political issues that they personally strongly oppose or agree with.
In regards to the remaining questions, our youth will indeed change the world, but not necessarily for the better. Capitalism breeds laziness, and unfortunately American values have been chucked out the window, in favor of the iPods and Hilton sisters and Ben Rothlisberger jerseys and MTV News instead. What is our society becoming? A nation of consumers with no comprehension of the dangers an overconfident, underachieving nation are prone to endure. See also the Roman Empire Autocracy and for kicks cross-reference the Totalitarian American Capitalist Empire.
To add to what EnlightenME added, I think the cause of the problem is parents not taking time to be involved in their kids' lives. The only reason I have an education, and can think for myself is because my parents introduced me to politics and world events in the news when I was very young. Too often parents take a hands off approach to the level of involvement with their children, but then turn around and hand them things on a silver platter. It's like, "Congratulations, you turned sixteen, here's a car." when perhaps it should be, "Congratulations, you made the honor roll and you're actively involved in afterschool programs, here's a downpayment for a car, and half of the monthly installments for it. What we want you to grasp is the responsibility inherent with making a car payment for sixty months..." but does that happen in America? No. Our kids underachieve and then get rewarded for it. As time progresses, more and more parents stop teaching their children the American values their parents fought tooth and nail to teach them. And that is why the outlook of the nation's future is so very bleek.

well im a "youth" and I care and understand politics, I understand that I dont like todays politics, infact I dont like politics at all, they create events that effect this world, and because of their politics they decide to dismiss use as just the "youth". And I like something you said ""They" could change the world"", thats the problem, its so easy to pass the burden on to the next people, why do "They" have to change the world, your generation is still here, you can change the world now, but no you pass it on to the next generation, and we will do the same, and them after. So the statement "They can change the world" is wrong, you can change the world, we can change the world, we are the future, because were all in it together.

Most of the adults in this country don't care, and don't undestand politics. The vast majority of people I see have no concept of the law, and just repeat back whatever they've heard on their favor news station without ever looking at the facts or thinking for themself.
Why should the youth care when nobody around them does.

Every younger generation feels that the older generation has screwed them over somehow. The youth care, but they don't have a complete understanding because they are fed so much BS. They will gain their truth through time and experience.

various the young children are very suggested even as it comprises politics. yet, no longer having had some existence thoughts yet, that's obscure people's reliable positions on themes. basically shop interpreting plenty, do no longer purchase the partisan tag traces, examine between THE traces. Make a judgment, bypass from there. holding in ideas, the authentic outcome--no longer the scuffling with about it alongside the way.

The youth of this country understands playing victims and being want a be thugs, baby mama drama, drugs and welfare. You need to care in order to understand anything, So how can we expect the youth to understand about anything that one would need to devote time too. Drugs and fast money /guns and cars and food // Sex, sex, sex, now do you think they have time for intelligent conversations about politics, changing policies and leading a country. Thats how other nationalities take what should go to them because of their lack of interest.

They really have no reason to. Current events are not taught in school, and parents are becoming less and less involved in their children's lives, and most just don't care. They do not have anyone in their life saying that they should respect the right so many people fought for them to have. Once they get a little older and life gets tougher, they will learn.

People have been saying this about every generation. They'll think they can change the World, but realize eventually that holding a sign in the street doesn't in fact change the world. I love their idealism, but it accomplishes nothing without practical and logical common sense.

The conceited, ignorant snobs who hold us in their grip don't care about or understand any Little People, young or old. It's best to get power through private groups by strikes, boycotts, etc. The phony, overrated Constitution excludes the people after its first three words.
