favorite movie of all-time!!!

what's not to love?

one boy loves death, one woman loves life (especially given the circumstances surrounding that love for life). they meet each other, change each others' lives, fall in love...

just one catch: she's 80 and plans on killing herself on her birthday.

it's the purest, more perfect representation of "true love" ever filmed in a hollywood movie. these aren't glamourous movie stars of the day or people you'd probably give a second glance to in everyday life but, that's the beauty of it all.

it shows that it's possible to find that one person who can change your life for the better, even if it's not what society would have in store for you. and, though it may seem far-fetched seeing these two actors (bud cort and ruth gordon) in their love affair, you can't help but feel it's more REAL than anything being pedalled out by hollywood these days.

would i want to be them in real life?

no, i doubt i could find someone that compliments me as well as the way they did for each other.

All time favorite. Very life affirming for a movie about suicide. I would love to be more like Maude, who despite all the terrible things in her life (does everybody get the concentration camp references?) she is still so positive and giving. I want be be that alive and I'm half her age in the movie!

I like their attitude on life, but you can live life to the fullest without having to live so extremely or recklessly. Balance in life is important- and Harold (in my opinion) was kind of weak for just adopting Maude's philosophy so completely, although she certainly saved him.

Good movie, but I wouldn't like to be them.

Loved it, but isn't the only reason Maude was so free to be
free-spirited because she was planning to die on her 80th birthday and therefore there wouldn't be any of societies repercussions placed upon her?

Honestly, that movie freaked me out...a strange courtship indeed, and the sex, yeah, was uncomfortable to imagine. I know love comes in strange forms, but it just rubbed me the wrong way.

Fantastic, funny and bitter sweet. Ruth Gordon was always one of my favourites, "Where's Papa" ,"Rosemary's baby. " No one near to her.
