Maybe because you spend so much time with gay people that they find it hard to believe you aren't one of them.

I don't like racists so I don't hang around them. If you don't like gays, why do you hang around them?

How do you not accept gay people? By saying that they are going to burn in hell? By making fun of them? What does that even mean that you don't "accept" them? Do you mean that you don't approve for whatever reason. How do you know that they don't accept your stance? You don't have to agree with the way some people live their lives but as long as everyone is an adult, and no one is getting hurt, what is it to you? If it is a religious thing then why not work on loving people. You don't want to turn out like that insane man in KS Fred Phelps, do you? If you have a hard time loving just pray about it and God will change your heart and show you how to truly love other people - even if they are different than you.

It may be because you are confusing "accept" , which is done internally, with outward behavior.

When I was in college I had the opportunity to have a conversation with a gentleman who had actually been my teacher in junior high. He told me about some of the racially hateful things other teachers said in the teachers' lounge. These teachers were racist but they did not display prejudice behavior. By that I mean that they graded all students in the same manner, they spoke to all students in the same manner and they disciplined all students in the same manner. Yet, in the teachers' lounge they expressed negative thoughts and feelings about certain groups of people based solely on the race/ethnicity of those people.

If you have negative thoughts and feelings about people who lust/love their same gender, that is your business and I bet most people are not really that concerned.

I, though I am not a lesbian myself, would be concerned if your internal thoughts and feelings were expressed through behavior such as making remarks that were inaccurate or hateful towards gays in public discourse or using whatever influence you might have to keep a lesbian or gay person from being hired where you work even if they were the best candidate for the open position.

If you don't accept lesbians and gays, that is your choice. When you display behavior that impedes the ability of lesbians and gays to enjoy the same quality of life that I enjoy as a straight person, then I can understand why lesbians and gays would not "accept" that you don't "accept" them.

But...why DON'T you accept gay people? Because honestly, there's no good reason not to. All of the reasons most people cite are either petty, anachronistic, or both.

Although, as long as you're not, like, openly hostile to them, then I guess I really don't care that much. (And I'm not gay, by the way.)

This is a very simple answer. You sort of answered it yourself. If you expect people to accept you, you too must accept them. Gay people expect people, such as yourself, to accept them as gay because they accept you and your nature of being straight. One does not choose to be gay any more than one "chooses" to be straight. It's something you're born with. People should not judge others on situations that they are born into.

I can accept that you don't accept gay people and you are most likely a bigot.

I highly doubt gay people, or most anyone else, give a rat's a*s what you accept.

I don't have a problem with your UnAcceptance. Take off and live your own life.
You have every right to live your life and allow whomever you want within it but the moment you cross the line and attempt to force your belief onto others you are no longer living "your life" you are interfering in "my" life and I do not tolerate that.
