Wow, it's amazing to me that people say that there's no money to be made and no market for this! I make good income, work full time, am crunched for time, and would eat at a fast food restaurant 5 or 6 times a week if I could. What's the difference between me and regulars at fast food restaurants? I'm vegetarian!

And veggie choices don't take "hours" to make, and the ingredients are not more expensive than meat based products. Think: soy. A pound of soy versus a pound of beef to raise? About 1/5th the cost.

I'm a vegetarian too and I know what you mean. Unfortunately, we are still a fairly small, though growing, part of the population and many restaurants don't take our needs into consideration. As you know, vegetarian food is actually cheaper than meat-based food but many companies don't realize this. They may think it wouldn't keep well but they have salads and the ubiquitous lettuce and tomato for their burgers and sandwiches. You and I know that many vegetables and fruits keep well and would be super quick and easy for restaurants to offer on their menus but as long as our society's focus is on junk food, they're not going to realize that. There are a few options at some restaurants however. Some places, such as Sonic will hold the meat on their salads for you and will also make their bistro egg, cheese and meat sandwiches without the meat. Quizno's has an out of this world vegetarian sub. If you have one in your area, I highly recommend it. In my opinion it puts Subway to shame. :) One positive sign is that more restaurants are offering healthier choices, even if it's just applesauce in place of fries in kids' meals. Things are changing for the better. In the meantime, we just have to make do with what's available and maybe take along a bag of nuts and an apple to eat later to supplement the skimpy choices. :D

In order for the chains to offer vegan and veg options, there needs to be a consistent demand. That means people will need to go into McDonald's and purposely order their veggie burger. I'm not even vegetarian and you couldn't pay me to eat fast food! I say pick your battles and instead focus on supporting local businesses and natural food restaurants.

Well, that would be because the top executives in fast food companies mak the decisions, and they probably believe that the majority of people out there are not vegetarians. Therefore, they want to cut down on supply costs, advertising costs, etc. that would only appeal to a minority group ... namely vegetarians/vegans.
The link in my sources gives you several different vegetarian options in some different fast food, chain restaurants, etc. Also, there's always cheese and veggie pizzas, and if you ask them, many pizza companies will also give you a cheese-less pizza if you are vegan.

Unless and until you can convince the industry that veggie choices are worth the extra work and expense, you aren't going to see much more than BK's token offering. People just don't go to a fast-food restaurant expecting veggie meals.

I know! They really should offer more choices...
McDonald's used to have this good veggie sandwich, but they don't have it any more...
Oh and I forgot... you should try a "Thai fast food" restaurant!! They offer many kinds of noodles, rice and other stuff with lots of delicious steamed vegetables... My sister made me try that and I've been hooked ever since!!

Because most Americans like to eat a quit meal full of saturated fat and sodium. I'm glad you asked this question because I was wondering the same thing.

Most people go to burger places for burgers and fries, not veggies. If they only sold veggies, they would be out of business in a month.

There aren't enough vegetarians out there to make much of a market for such things!
