It sounds like your computer isn't recognizing your sound card. To try to remedy the problem, go to Start, and then right-click on "My Computer." You'll see a menu open up; go to the bottom and choose "Properties." In the Properties dialogue box, click on the "Hardware" tab, then click on the "Device Manager" button near the top. You will see a list of all the devices on your computer. Next to "Sound, Video, and Game Controllers" you will probably see a plus sign; you may also see a red "x" telling you something is amiss. Click on the plus sign to open the category. You will see a list of any sound devices on your computer; right click on your sound card (it may also have a red "x" beside it) and select "Uninstall." You will get a warning message saying that you're about to uninstall the device; tell it "ok." After you have uninstalled the sound device, reboot your system; it *should* detect the sound card as "new" and go through the process of installing the driver for it.
If, after re-installing the sound card, you still have no sound, it may be time to get the machine checked out; it's also possible that your sound card has simply died - it's not likely with an integrated sound system, but if it's the kind that is on a separate card that can be pulled from the system, be sure that it's firmly seated and making good contact.

May be it's a problem with your sound card or the sound card.
1. Uninstall & reinstall the sound card driver with the latest one.
2. Check in BIOS that it's not disabled.
3. If it is not a built-in one, try remove it and put it back
4. Not working? > Try some diag. utility to find out the issue.

If you're using Sound Blaster live!, you could use digital signal. Most speakers are compatible with analog signal only.
Check the settings and uncheck the 'digital' option.
