The Black Dahlia. It's about the death of Elizabeth Short, a young woman found brutally murdered. Bucky soon realizes that his girlfriend had ties to the deceased, and soon after that, he begins uncovering corruption and conspiracy within the police department. Based on a true unsolved murder. In the 1940s, a young and beautiful woman named Elizabeth Short came to Hollywood, destined to become a famous actress. However, her brutal murder in 1947 would make her famously known as 'The Black Dahlia' and would become a conspiracy and an obsession with all involved.

Elizabeth Short, though I don't believe she actually acted in anything. She was just one of many starry-eyed young women who went to Hollywood expecting to be discovered. Instead she ended up cut in half with her mouth slit from ear to ear.
There are various statements about how she survived in Hollywood. There are suggestions of prostitutions, but oddly there is a very big belief that would prevent that. That belief was that her sexual organs were not developed enough to have intercourse. This could be the result of being a hermaphrodite. It was because of this theory that the possible reason she was killed was that she was killed by somebody who tried to have sex with her and found this rare condition.
The newspapers at the time began calling her the Black Dahlia for lack of a real name. Seems she had been seen around at bars wearing the flower. Eventually her true identity was discovered, but the nickname stuck and like all gruesome, unsolved murders, the interest continues.
The movie is based on James Elroy's book, pretty much the most well known book about the Black Dahlia. The most recent one is by an ex-LAPD, private detective who came to believe that his father, a doctor with infamously sexual parties, is the murderer. An old District Attorney friend of his looked at the evidence he gathered and supposedly claimed it would be enough to get an indictment. Of course, dear old Dr. Daddy left the US in the 50s, never to return, and is now dead.
