Martin Sheen was born Ramon Geraldo Antonio Estevez in Dayton, Ohio, in 1940. He has 3 sons and 1 daughter. Charlie Sheen, the oldest son, chose the last name Sheen when he began his acting career, the other children kept the Estevez name. He is listed as American, although the family surname is Hispanic. Martin's wife's name is Janet and all the children have the same father & mother.

Martin Sheen's real name is Esteves, he changed it to not sound too ethnic, which was a problem in the sixties and seventies getting a job acting. Charlie took the assumed name to ride his dad's coat-tails, Emilio chose to go his own way and make it on his own

Estevez is Martin Sheen's real last name. Emilio chose it so he wouldn't be under the Sheen shadow!

Emilio was illigitamate, Martin Sheen was screwing around on Charlie's mom and got the girl pregnant. Emilio was born out of wedlock and given his mother's last name. Martin Sheen did do the right thing and was a part of Emilio's life growing up, and helped him get into the movie industry.

Though his father had opted to use the stage name "Sheen" over his more ethnic birth name "Estevez", Emilio chose to retain the family name, hoping to avoid riding his father's coat tails. He also thought the double "E" set of initials was "pretty".
