I'm just curious, and I really don't have a clue. But I'd appreciate it if you'd respond thoughtfully. (I don't know why I put it in visual arts)

I think most people have avatars that look like they want to look.

I just recently created an avatar and it doesn't look much like me (as I am pictured here). I too was annoyed by the limited age range of the choices. I did rather want to make myself look a bit like Gandalf. It was like looking into a mirror reflecting another mirror into infinity. What happens when our avatars start making avatars...

I have no idea. My Avatar doesn't much resemble me. Plus, the faces seem to all have white bone-structures. That's racist. Why are there no faces w/ Black, Arab, Jewish, Oriental, Hispanic, Pacific Islander, Native American, etc. bone-structures? Are the people at Yahoo!Answers a bunch of pro-White pigs? I sure hope not. Let me point out that I'm only at level 1, maybe a wider choice of faces becomes available at higher levels......I hope so.

Avatars are so fun to play around with, that everybody creates an image of what they want to look like; not what they really look like - it's fun to create a new identity for yourself, and it's not like anybody's really gonna know, I mean, right? My avatar looks sort of like me - definatley not the outfit that I would wear, though! lol. I'm guessing maybe only 50% of avatars are truthful to their user.

I couldn't find one that looked like me, so I chose the person closest to me. I don't understand why all the Yahoo female avatars look about 13 years old. There is none with grey hair and none with glasses (that I could find).

Maybe about 50%. My avatar doesn't look like me, I'm a brunette with really long hair and my avatar has shorter blond hair.

I do, well sort of vaguely. Of course you aren't going to get an exact match out of so few choices, and they all have big, round heads and puny necks. Funny coincidence- I really do! Most people don't though.
