The lenght of the pipe determines the tone of each chime. If you want to tune them, you will need to change the lenght of each pipe by cutting it very precisely. You will not be able to lower the tone of a chime, you can only raise it.

In my opinion, bamboo chimes are a softer, more gentle sound. It just seems more relaxing than the 'bing-bong' sound of most metal chimes. I have a couple bamboo chimes in my yard. The best way I've found to keep them from 'falling apart' is to try to keep them out of the weather, under an awning, under the cover of a porch, etc.

The tone of each pipe is determined by it's length, to change the tone, shorten it, but be careful you might not like the new tone any better and once cut it's too late for that pipe

For a higher pitch cut a little off. For a lower pitch add a small amount of plaster of paris a little at a time until you get the frequency you are looking for.
