I think he said that because he thinks that maybe he might have a chance with you and you are shy to the idea but maybe you'll come around

maybe he has more than friendship in mind, ask him directly what he meant. and remember most guys dont know what they speak most of the time so if he doesnt bring it up. just leave it alone. it might have been just a reaction
