Hi your body changes all the time use to get spotting before i came on, i get if a few days on and off and then i come on fully. But this started happening a few years after i started my period, it used to just start quickly and i had no warning except pain straight way, when i was bleeding a few days before i had no period pains. You shouldnt be embarrased to talk to you mum, as you are 17 and have done nothing wrong, she is suppose to be there for you to talk to, if you feel you cant talk to her, go to the doctors your self, its best to get it checked out,
But ive just had a thought, you haymen might of broke, this can happen anytime have you done any sports or ran about a lot or something energetic, you dont need to have sex for it to brake, plus it does bleed a little. If you go to the doctor he will check for you.

Are you stressed? Have you started some new physical activity lately? Both of those could cause mid-month spotting.
Another thing that could be the cause... and please forgive me for the "graphic and intimate nature" of this... if you have just started masterbation or are trying penetration of any kind, this could cause a tiny bit of bleeding. This would be the same as if you had been sexually active and had a rather, uh, enthusiastic session.
If it's just a tiny smearing of blood and you haven't spotted since, I probably wouldnt' worry about it too much. But if it's more or if you have any pain, you need to see a doctore. In fact, sexually active or not, you're 17 and this would be a good time to start seeing an OB-GYN. If nothing else, it'll give you a healthy baseline for the future and someone safe to ask questions.

Sometimes you can have an irregular period (a little bleeding that starts and then stops) due to stress or other things like birth control pills, but if you have pain or are sexually active and think that might be the cause then checking it out with a doctor would be the best thing to do. And don't be too worried, it sounds pretty normal to me.

Don't worry. It is normal to have a period, or even just a little "spotting" when it isn't on your scheduled time. You will find that sometimes mother nature can surprise you and show up when you least expect it. I am wondering though if you have had sexual intercourse or other type of penetration which may have broken your hymen?????? Could this be why you are affraid to tell your mom?

Honey, your period doesn't always happen at the same times every single month. It can get screwed up by the things you eat, the activites you do, and many other things. It would be a pimple that popped.
You should ask your mother, she is your mother and you should feel very close to her. Don't be afraid, ask her!

Is it only light spotting? Is this a couple days before your regular period? If so, you've got nothing to worry about. It's normal.
But if it isn't, it could be a side effect of a hormone/vitamin supplement or a *serious infection*.
You might want to swallow your fear and go to the doctor!
Sorry about that and hope you get better! :-)

Why be scared to tell your mom if you have nothing to hide, it could be your period but if you don't get it in a couple of days it could be another problem. Tell her.
