O2 sensor is located in the exhaust manifold. They can become pretty corroded over time, and due to the heat, can 'fuse' in their mounting hole. Some cars have two of them. A deep well socket and a breakout bar is usually sufficient. If you are able to extract it successfully, be sure to install the new one(s) with anti-seize compound on the threads.

Some o2 sensors are easy to replace and some are hard to get to. A 7/8 wrench will fit almost all of them if you can get to it. A little penetrating oil will help a lot getting it out. Just need to be sure which one to replace. Older cars had 1, but many newer cars have 4. Good luck

i changed mine in Nov of last year-- you have to have the special tool that can take out the sensor which is about $25 and I had to buy an adapter since i didn't have the right socket wrench. at least for me, i had to take off the exhaust manifold which is about in the middle of the engine and at the back of of it ( sort of next to the windshield) i think i used a 10 mm socket to get the shield plate off and then unhooked the connecting piece of the o2 sensor and took out the unit out with the special tool and then i took the new one in-- screwed in the sensor by hand to get it started and used the tool to tighten it at the end and then hooked up the connecting piece. and then took the screws back on the exhaust manifold plate. mine was for a 1997 grand am gt 2.4

I just changed mine today on a Toyota tercel. Was simple, two 12mm nuts was all that held it in. Pulling it out and replacing the gasket and rebolting backin place and clipping the wiring harness up. It was done right behind the radiator in the engine bay. I couldn't have been so lucky for it be accessable. There no special tools for the job.
What kind of car do you have? Your fellow Yahoo's might have changed that model already.
