My homepage has been hijacked by www.virusburst.com/?aff=334, and their associate websites, i.e. malware.com; pop-ups saying my computer is infected with a virus. I think I was tricked into allowing them past my McAfee firewall. They have put a blinking ? and slashed circle (meaning no) icon on my taskbar. I have run Mc Afee virus scan,yahoo anti-spy and Microsoft Windows Defender to no avail. Any suggestions out there?

Hi, Your computer has what is known as a Smitfraud infection. As you have found, most "general purpose" malware tools can not remove it.
There is a specialized removal tool called RogueFix then can often remove Smitfraud... instructions and tool can be found here:

1. Check for Virus - Norton Antivirus, Mcafee, AVG, etc... 2. Check for Spyware - Spy Sweeper, Spybot, etc ... 3. Check for adware - Ad-Adware from lavasoft is a good one. Then try to remove it using the program, if cannot, then might have to clear it in safe mode or using MS-DOS format, which is quite troublesome.

You can also download Ewido. You get a trial period of 30 days and it seems to work very well for hijackers. I had several problems and I installed Ewido and used it and a registry cleaner to clean up my computer. Then I installed a firewall and antivirus software. After my trial version of Ewido ran out, I began using spybot in advanced mode. It works well with my firewall and antivirus.

hi, there are some virus that have hacked your IE browser.
i recommand you to use firefox with Google toolbar. firefox can disable all virus to run, because the virus can only run on IE.
besides, firefox can block any any poppus and disable any virus and adware, spyware on webpage, so, firefox is much safer than IE. as you know, most of the virus is spread throught internet and webpage.
firefox is much smaller than IE, so i run faster than IE.

Then after you scan and clear all the viruses go back and set your old page as your homepage again!
